The two Kenyan women entrepreneurs are set for a $1.5 million share of grant funding, alongside eight other finalists drawn from across Africa. Their selection caps a rigorous journey that began with over 24,000 applications from 54 countries.

Louisa Gathecha leads Bottle Logistics East Africa, a company that recovers industrial and post-consumer glass and processes it into high-quality cullet.
Her work turns waste into a usable raw material, cutting environmental damage while creating jobs along the recycling value chain. Gathecha’s approach reflects a growing trend among African founders: solving local problems with scalable, market-ready solutions.
Naomi Monari founded Bena Care, a health innovation venture tackling the high cost of chronic illness treatment for low-income families.
Her flagship project, Renal Roads, is a mobile dialysis facility built to reach patients who cannot easily access fixed clinics. Monari’s model closes a real gap in Kenya’s healthcare system, bringing lifesaving treatment closer to underserved communities.
Understanding Africa’s Business Heroes ABH
Africa’s Business Heroes is the Jack Ma Foundation’s flagship philanthropic competition for African entrepreneurs.
Each year, ABH recognizes ten outstanding founders and shares $1.5 million in grant funding among them. The overall winner takes home up to $300,000, while runners-up and other finalists receive structured awards.
The Africa Business Heroes 2026 Top 100 was announced in June, representing 27 countries. Egypt, Nigeria, and Kenya led the pack in numbers. From there, the field narrowed through live semi-finals held in Nairobi on August 21–22, 2026, where the Top 20 pitched before expert judges.
